What cookies are

The legal basis in the UK
PECR — the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 — governs cookies in the UK, overseen by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Strictly necessary cookies need no consent to be set; the rest do, unless an exemption applies. Where a cookie touches personal data, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply too, as set out in the privacy policy.
Cookies we use
- Essential cookies keep basic functions running — holding a chosen setting, for example — and cannot be turned off from inside the site.
- Analytics cookies tell us, in aggregate, how many readers reach a table review and by what route. They do not identify anyone individually.
We do not use cookies for advertising, and none pass your browsing on to a gambling operator.
How long they last
Session cookies clear when you shut the browser. Persistent analytics cookies expire on a set timetable, at most 13 months.
Switching cookies off
Every major browser lets you view, block or delete cookies from its settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working; blocking analytics changes nothing about reading a page.
